Absorbency Variety Packs and One-Level Cases

An older woman in a kitchen sorts stacks of folded white cloths into three open cardboard boxes.

While daytime and overnight are still being matched, the cart usually holds one of two buys. A variety pack prints more than one absorbency word in the same box. Sellers also call that a mixed pack or a trial pack. A one-level case stamps a single word on every piece. The word might be moderate, maximum, overnight, or another label that brand uses. You are buying the same kind of product either way. One box is for sorting the words. The other restocks a word you already use.

Absorbency words are package language. What absorbency labels actually say is the page for reading them without treating two brands’ “maximum” as the same measure. Day capacity versus overnight capacity is the split between a daytime supply and a night supply. A mixed box is a way to have both words in the house before you commit to a case of either.

The prices further down are single-level pull-ups, a picture of one word printed across a whole bag.

A box that mixes absorbency words

A variety pack is the buy while daytime and overnight are still unmatched, or while one person uses a lighter piece by day and a heavier piece at night and you want both words in a single delivery. Read the side panel for the words inside. A title that says variety, mixed, or trial is not enough if the side panel lists only one word. Count how many pieces of each word are in the pack if the panel prints that. If it does not, you cannot know the mix from the front.

Keep the size the same across the mix. A variety of absorbency in a size that does not fit is a wasted check. The waist or the brief size on the mixed pack should be the size you already wear, or the size you are testing on purpose. Changing size and absorbency in one order leaves two changes to sort out.

The mixed pack is a short order. Sample packs and a full case is the wider note on keeping the first buy small. After you know the word for day and the word for night, the standing order can become two one-level cases, or one case if a single word covered both parts of the day for you.

A case that repeats one word

A one-level case is the reorder after the word is settled. Every piece in the bag carries that word, and the order refills it.

Prevail Daily Protective Underwear, unisex, maximum absorbency, large, 64 count in four packs of 16, is one word: maximum. The page says it is for day or overnight. Large is listed for waist sizes 44 to 58 inches. Amazon showed that recorded price of $53.67 when the article was written. The listing is Prevail Daily Protective Underwear, maximum, large, 64 count. That is a single level whose maker presents it for both parts of the day, which is a different buy from a box that mixes words. Check the Amazon listing before buying; its price, count, and size may have changed since this article was written.

Depend Night Defense for women, large, 14 count, is also one level, and the name says night. The bullets list up to 12 hours of protection. Large on this listing is a 38 to 44 inch waist. Amazon showed that recorded price of $15.88 when the article was written for Depend Night Defense adult underwear for women, large, 14 count. The 12 hours figure is the listing’s claim. The waist range does not match Prevail’s large, so the two bags are not a size pair.

Washable underwear is a different product from either case. Washable absorbent underwear and disposable pull-ups is the laundry comparison. A variety pack of disposable pull-ups will not tell you how a cloth pant fits. Finish the absorbency word on the disposable line you are refilling, then keep the case to that word and that size.
