What absorbency labels actually say

“Maximum,” “up to 12 hours,” and “day or overnight” all showed up on Amazon listings checked when the article was written. They are not three ways of saying the same thing. Each phrase belongs to the product page that printed it. Shoppers in their late 50s through their 70s, and adult children comparing two tabs on a phone, can treat the words as labels to copy, not as a scale that runs across brands. Check the Amazon listing before buying; its price, count, and size may have changed since this article was written.

What was printed, product by product

Poise Incontinence Pads, Long, 64 count, carries the words Maximum Absorbency. The page also listed a length of 14.3 inches and individually wrapped pads. Amazon showed $46.95 when the article was written. Maximum, on this listing, is a description of a long bladder pad. There is no hour claim and no waist size in the details we recorded.

Depend Night Defense for women, large, 14 count, is named as a night product. The bullets say up to 12 hours, and the size line is a 38 to 44 inch waist. Amazon showed $15.88 when the article was written. The capacity language here is a wear-time phrase, plus the word Night in the product name. The page did not, in our record, add the word maximum.

Prevail Daily Protective Underwear, large, 64 count, uses Maximum Absorbency and also says the unisex pull-up can be used day or overnight. Large is 44 to 58 inches. The page mentions breathable zones plus aloe. Amazon showed $53.67 when the article was written. One listing is doing two jobs with language: a maximum banner, and a day-or-overnight use line.

Set the Poise “maximum” next to the Prevail “maximum” and you have the same adjective on a 14.3-inch pad and on a pull-up whose large size runs from 44 to 58 inches. Nothing on these pages converts that adjective into ounces, cups, or a shared score. The Night Defense page’s “up to 12 hours” does not convert into the Prevail page’s “day or overnight” either. Each sentence stays on the listing that printed it.

What to write down beside the banner

Copy five fields if you are comparing on a phone later: brand, full product name, the absorbency or wear-time words, any size range, and the count. For these three, that is Poise maximum, long pad, 64; Depend Night Defense, up to 12 hours, large 38 to 44, 14; Prevail maximum, day or overnight, large 44 to 58, 64. Lose the product name and “maximum” becomes a word you cannot shop with.

A larger size is not a higher absorbency label. Prevail’s large and Depend’s large already cover different waists, and only one of those pages says maximum. Buying the bigger letter because the morning was wet mixes the size line with the label line. Check whether the waist you measured sits in the printed range. Then read the words the page actually uses for capacity or hours.

Pack price does not decode the label. The recorded prices were $46.95, $15.88, and $53.67 for 64, 14, and 64 pieces. The 14-count night pull-on can look cheap next to a 64-count case and still be the product whose page says 12 hours. Divide price by count when you are comparing cost. Do not divide it when you are trying to learn which word means a heavier product. These pages did not print a number of ounces to divide.

Related reading: heavy, maximum, and overnight on the package, day capacity and overnight capacity, and pads, underwear, and briefs.
